A woman in San Francisco, who was arrested for 120 alleged shoplifting incidents and released on zero bail, is back behind bars after allegedly stealing again.

Police apprehended Aziza Graves, 41, on Dec. 4 at the Westfield San Francisco Centre mall and was charged with one count of petty theft. There were also three local warrants for her arrest and one warrant in El Dorado County, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Graves was previously arrested in November following an investigation by the District Attorney’s office and the police for thefts at a Target at the Stonestown Galleria totaling more than $40,000 from October 2020 to November 2021. She was charged with eight felony counts of grand theft and 120 misdemeanor counts of petty theft.

She allegedly used self-checkouts to scan the items and submit a payment of $1 or even one cent, and then left before the transaction completed.(snip)

Despite prosecutors recommending she be held on bail, a San Francisco Superior Court judge released her and ordered her to sign up for a monitoring device and stay away from the Target. She violated the conditions of her release by not wearing her monitor and allegedly stealing again.

The District Attorney is again seeking she be held without bail.

Many years ago the State I lived in allowed the retailer to levy some heavy fines against shoplifters, or their parents if the lifters were minors.

(this was a long time ago and I do not remember exactly, but the remuneration was pretty stiff)

I knew someone who tried to collect on behalf of the dept stores.

Then there were the parents who would keep the girl scout cookie money, or write bad checks for the boxes, Not like the troop could retaliate against the poor little girls

Although Target Is not really Innocent themselves

https://www.vice.com/en/article/qkkepv/target-knows-you-re-pregnant

First, all Target customers are assigned a Guest ID.

Associated with this ID is information on “your age, whether you are married and have kids, which part of town you live in,

how long it takes you to drive to the store, your estimated salary, whether you’ve moved recently,

what credit cards you carry in your wallet and what Web sites you visit.”

Pole found that by analyzing this data combined with purchasing history on 25 products – things like unscented lotion and certain types of vitamins — he could determine the likelihood that a woman was pregnant.

He quantified this information by assigning women a “pregnancy prediction” score; his data analysis was so good that he could estimate, within a fairly small window of time, a woman’s due date.

This further allowed Target to send the women coupons targeted at different stages of pregnancy.

I think that in California you can sue for around 15,000.00 in small claims court. Several of those type of suits can cause her to give up money and property. UNTIL she files for bankruptcy.

I began my working life in retail in a saner era when retailers could legally protect themselves by detaining observed shoplifters by any means. Now, the retailer would be arrested without bail, hauled into court and convicted.

Most people get better at their job when doing the same thing over and over. Evidently this lady is not real smart as she is not learning on how not to get caught.
