Film ping list.
As always, I look for good news from the world of film when I can find it.
The best 2021 films I’ve seen this year (all in theaters): Old Henry; The Most Reluctant Convert; Montana Story. I’m enthusiastic on all three.
The best older films I discovered this year: Downfall; Conspiracy.
I’ve not yet seen Belfast or C’mon, C’mon. Both have been very well reviewed. Both seem to be thoughtful, culturally and morally conservative films. I’ve not yet been excited enough to get to a theater to watch them, but since I think we need to vote with our dollars, I will probably trek out one of these evenings.
The film I’m most looking forward to: After Yang, which premiered to good reviews in Cannes but then went back into lockdown. It will be showing at Sundance, which is going hybrid this year; I’ll probably see if I can sign up for an online showing.
I think Downfall is the most meme’d movie clip of all time.

I recently watched a beautifully-done family-friendly movie, free on Tubi, called Run The Wild Fields:

Downfall is one of my favorites.

I’m looking forward to seeing The Kings Man coming out this month.
Thanks for the tips. I do want to see BELFAST.
‘Death Of Stalin’ was one of the best I’ve seen since ‘Wag The Dog’.
Dark, dark, dark, but Jason Isaacs as Zukhov is brilliant. Loved watching Beria get capped.
