When the bill is that marked up and toyed with, it’s usually up to the cashier whether they will take it or not.
If the bank refuses that bill, most retail managers will then dock the cashier’s paycheck for the cost of transaction, plus any related charges.

You could take a torn bill to the bank and if the piece you have is greater than 50% of an undamaged bill, they will generally (sometimes grudgingly) replace it. If you have less than 50%, so such luck. If the bank refuses that bill, most retail managers will then dock the cashier’s paycheck for the cost of transaction, plus any related charges.

worked retail for years. by the time defaced currency goes to the bank for a deposit you can’t tell who was the cashier that excepted the defaced currency. If I ever had an employer that expected me to be responsible for the bank not excepting the currency I would have laughed in their face and tell them they will have to eat it.
