A few weeks ago I discovered from an old book I keep on hand -- Manly P. Hall’s magnum opus (An Encyclopedic Outline of Masonic, Hermetic, Qabbalistic and Rosicrucian Symbolical Philosophy, 1928) -- that the rooster "was accepted by the Greeks as the emblem of Ares (Mars) and typified watchfulness and defense. When placed at the center of a weather vane it signifies the sun in the midst of the four corners of creation" (pg.LXXXIX).
Mars sure gets around, even as the center of the four winds.

Yesterday I scored a metal sign from Tractor Supply. I could not find an image, but it's perfect for the kitchen. It's "Chicken Math" with a list of important formulae.
Great sale item selection. I forgot all about the mars/rooster/sun symbolism when I also brought home a rooster weather vane tree-topper. It looked like something I could display year-round.
