You can find this fun quotation puzzle, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications. I challenge us with the best ones out there.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days.  If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram ASK THE GROUP FOR HELP!

I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hal’s Helper below.

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.

   HAL'S CRYPTOGRAM HELPER

One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please don’t put the actual words of the quote in the clue.

Hopefully the last. This author’s quotes are like saying “the air is all around us.”

As fast as I could type. I started with the most common letter and most common word. That got me the seventh word and the rest of the puzzle.

1:18.42, and I started off down a blind alley. Just go with your gut, and you cannot go wrong on this one.

More from this author, ( I think):

“Anyone who discounts you is a dumbass.”

“Sometimes when I close my eyes, I can’t see.”

“When someone shows you who they are believe them the first time.”

“I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better, I do better.”

“Cats have 32 muscles in each ear, to help them ignore you.”

“Outside of a dog, a book is man’s best friend. Inside of a dog it’s too dark to read.”

“Each morning, I get up, sh*t, shower, shave, snort and f*rt and take a deep breath and face the day with a smile.”

“I can listen, ignore and forget at the same time.”

“Before you marry a person, you should first make them use a computer with slow Internet to see who they really are.”

“Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them, you are a mile away from them and you have their shoes.”

After twelve years of therapy my psychiatrist said something that brought tears to my eyes. He said, “No hablo ingles.”

“Life is not always a bowl of cherries, but sometimes it’s a bag of peanuts.”

“If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be.”

That’s right. It’s how statistical analysis works. It took longer than you would think for some of the first cryptanalysts to figure that simple trick out. For anyone that wants to try it, just look up English Alphabet Letter Frequency and follow the chart and your instinct. The simple key words don’t make the solution any more difficult either. It’s a fun distraction for a few minutes anyway when you want something different to do for a bit.

” Deep thoughts. Of a sixth-grader.”

I was thinking the same thing.

They don’t call it the “senses” for nothing.

More from the author:

“Life is hard.”

“Life is short.”

“Life sometimes, but not always, sucks wet dog fur.”

“Life is a pain in the butt.”

“Life is like a box of nails.”

“Life is like a boat on the water at high tide.”

It really bugs me, when you get these people with their quotes, acting holier than thou. Then you find out that they are on the lecture circuit, where for several thousand dollars, they'll give a speech at some luncheon, sign their book of nonsensical quotes, that they probably had someone else make up.
