I heard an interesting statistic - Belgium, a country of 11 million people, administers over 300 million doses of anti-depressants every year.
“Belgium, a country of 11 million people, administers over 300 million doses of anti-depressants every year.”
That’s not exceptional. 30 daily doses for each person, or roughly a years’ worth of doses for 10% of the population. And some ADs are twice daily and it is not unusual for a patient to be taking more than one type. And not all ADs are prescribed for depression — just guessing 15% are for other disorders. So I don’t think this is exceptional.
Not surprising since all they’re known for is their waffles and sprouts.
