Illinois-The driver fails to see stopped traffic and crashes into multiple cars at full speed.
Friend and his wife were on the expressway headed to Lansing a few years ago. They had just entered a construction zone where traffic was down to about 15 MPH when they were rear ended by a pick-up that never slowed down. Wife was killed instantly....
Ah, good idea. Pretty savvy of the instructor.
I do continue to thank God for saving me from situations that could have seen me off to prison or having died. I’ve had more than my share of divine breaks.
When traffic slows or stops when unexpectedly like in this case, always leave a large distance between you and the vehicle in front, that way if ya check your mirrors and see a vehicle bearing down on you from behind, if your quick, you’ll have enough room to accelerate and quickly change lanes to get out of harms way.
IDK - I could see someone recording video just to document the Charlie Foxtrot of the traffic jam they were in and got lucky.
What are ya thinking, the camera vehicle and the trucker staged all this?
C’mon...
Me too, many many such breaks. (Three car accident head on 60 mph, falling g off a three story roof, falling through ice, house burning down around us (thankfully we were still awake,, but close to bedtime when it happened) , snowy roads and put of control after slush skidding,, deer running g out in front of vehicle numerous times,, s well as my being an idiot in my 20’s. Too many to list. Plus medical emergencies- don’t know, why God wants me still here, but he certainly does for some reason.
When coming up to stopped traffic, I always watch the mirror very carefully and rapidly tap the brakes to flash the brake lights. I always plan the escape route and leave enough room in front of me to dive to that escape route. There’s nothing that scares me more than one lane at a standstill on a freeway. If it’s a standstill for my exit, I’ll sometimes drive to the next exit and backtrack to avoid standing still in a lane with cars whizzing by to my left at 70 mph.
At first i thought it was handheld camera, and couldn’t understand why someone woild,be recording out their back window- especially when nothing interesting was happening when the recording first was happening- that should have been obvious from my first and second post, no?
IF it had been someone hand holding th3 recorder, then yeah, it would look suspicious, given that 8tmis not unknown that terrorists film such stuff. But turns out it was a vehicle camera, which I didn’t realize at first. Honest mistake.
It didn’t seem like a traffic jam though- they were zipping right along normal speed it seemed.
We could start a club.
GPS dash cam with rear facing camera or Rear view cam/mirror records continuously.
The lucky survivors club
yeah i mistakenly htoguht it was handheld at first- but then noticed how steady it was on second view-
My God that was horrible. Those poor folks never knew what hit them.
I’m sure there are many of us who have experienced the joy of opening our eyes while driving and realizing that we have been dozing. The hard part comes when you have to reach out to scrape your heart off the inside of the windshield and put it back in your chest!
Wow!
I can see that accident was near a Six Flags.
I have a dash cam in my pickup, and it has a second camera looking out the back window.
What woke me up was the bumpiness of the just plowed field I was driving through. I was on I-10 10 minutes from home. I escaped only with divine intervention. I won’t mention my first (and last) experience with riptides.
I spent the last 3 hours reviewing and learning about rear view cam/mirrors and GPS dash cams.
Merry Christmas!
