My experience and opinion: at some point, almost everyone will experience some covid (many will not even notice so never test) and the shots don’t really do much to prevent transmission. Bad thing is it seems to impact some much more than others but if you are healthy and under 80, the odds are overwhelmingly in your favor. I personally know around sixty people that have had it. Everyone I know that has gotten it since April 2021 has had the shot. I have friends that were recluses throughout this. Ten of them gathered last week for a “vaccinated thanksgiving” and four of them have it this week.
Fortunate to live in a free state that didn’t shut down or mandate masks. I know more people that have had it than have not. Apart from the week in 2020 I was home with covid (and only being able to attend high school events in fall 2020) the past eighteen months weren’t all that different for me. Go in to work, play team sports 2x a week, eat in restaurants and stay in hotels, attend church and travel. Got the jab in March because of international travel— and believing at the time it was a good idea. I have no intention of any booster. Get the shot or don’t— whatever works for you— but it isn’t a silver bullet.
I’ve flown commercially ten times this year (sucks even more than it used to) and been in crowds of up to 60k+ indoors and stadiums in different states without masks or shot proof. People undoubtedly had it in those crowds and passed it to others. Some of those are probably sick and others didn’t notice. There certainly weren’t bodies piled up in the parking lot. I really don’t think it’s about “safety” any longer and that we’ve just delayed the inevitable.
