I’ll never forget my first visit to Hickam AFB, back in 1980 or so. The guys who were stationed there told me to take a careful look around at the buildings. I believe it was 9th AF HQ at the time I was there, but I remember one of those buildings still bore the scars of strafing attacks. Trails of pock-marks all up and down the building. Pretty sobering, actually.
Sadly, some probably won’t return alive.
Was at Regan National about 7ish years ago when Honor Flights were coming in.
