Parents have to push in the right direction
My father’s approach to us kids was to identify our individual strengths and then provide information about careers that utilize those strengths, answer questions we had, and let us figure it out and make the commitment. If we were about to veer into something stupid, I am confident he would have brought up the issues with that choice, but in the end, after 18, we were expected to be out of the house and on our own - come back and visit as often as you can.
