From the videos I see from the camps, The people don’t seem like they agree to be there and the guards don’t seem agreeable to letting them leave
Just a few months ago, protesters broke into Parliament House in Canberra (like Congress in the USA), did some damage, poured blood all over the place (inside the building), set fires outside, and I think most were not even fined. (Now that is going too far in the other direction!) https://www.skynews.com.au/australia-news/politics/extinction-rebellion-protestors-deface-parliament-house-the-lodge-with-spray-paint-and-flares/news-story/7187bf0c131885436c267bffc5d45ee By the way there are actually two places they put the people in the Northern Territory, the one where most of international arrivals come in is the one that people are talking about on this thread. The other is in Alice Springs and is called the Todd Quarantine Facility or the Alice Springs Quarantine Facility, Alice Springs. It is actually the Alice Springs Mercure Resort and the owners want it back! https://www.ntnews.com.au/news/bookings-open-for-mercure-alice-springs-resort-currently-operating-as-the-todd-quarantine-facility/news-story/05709859a2a7c5fc870ac23a383a4251 If you are actually a resident of Darwin or Alice Springs, you can quarantine in your own home. Overall look video: https://9now.nine.com.au/60-minutes/a-60-minutes-exclusive--inside-the-gold-standard-quarantine-facility-with-no-leaks/c8ef227b-8341-4343-a77c-f95b22a6bbfc What I find far more upsetting to me about this Covid situation in Australia, is that until recently, without a special exemption, we couldn't leave the country. So to me, that is much more of a human rights violation than having to go in quarantine for 14 days when you come back in. That is like living in the old East Berlin, or North Korea.
