Funny you mention that. I am not at all fond of gloopy drippy dough balls in my soup or stew.
A *real* dumpling has filling of some sort. Dough balls need to be baked into something palatable.
You can have my share of those Bisquik balls.

I suspect “real dumplings” made of flour and water predate the ones with tasty fillings though!
Though, dumplings in Mastadon Stew might not have been as appetizing!
