How long would it take to charge some of the leading electric cars on the road fully?
Use these approximate calculations based on a 240V Level 2 power source and charging capacity, according to the manufacturers’ websites for the following 2021 cars:
Chevrolet Volt EV: 10 hours
Nissan Leaf: Up to 11 hours
Tesla Model S: 12 hours
Karma GS-6: 4 hours
Tesla Model 3: 12 hours
Porsche Taycan: Up to 10.5 hours
Mini SE Hardtop: 4 hours
Audi E-Tron: 10 hours
Polestar 2: 8 hours
BMW i3: 7 hours
Yes you can charge them faster depending on the charger and what level the battery is at. At a minimum 30 minutes to top off a partially used battery.
How would gas stations look on major highways that fuel hundreds of cars each day. You’d need hundreds of charge stations as people hang around waiting for there car to charge. Asinine at best.
Electric cars may work for daily city commuters but for real world America there useless in their current technology.

It’s estimated that there are 39 million Americans living in apartments. How are they going to charge their vehicles? but more importantly, how are apartment complexes going to accommodate each car owning tenant with their own charger?
I can tell you that number is way off for the Leaf on my Level 2 charger. Half that. I have now had mine for 6 years and 65K miles. I can’t believe how fast time goes. I have really enjoyed it...especially when gas has spiked or there were pipeline issues that caused shortages of gas...but it is is mainly a toy. The limited amount of maintenance needed is absolutely astonishing.
I have two other ICE cars and wouldn’t get rid of them for any reason.
Those times are for low Amp charging. Commercial, high Amp charging puts in over mile per minute, but the question still exists, where do the Amps come from?
Hybrids are the Future. Who wouldn’t want a Pickup will 1,000 lbft of torque that gets 30 mpg and 600 mile range when not towing.
The push for all electric will just make hybrids look better and better.
When they can get electric cars to charge them self then they can give me a call.
