I’m sorry, I remember you did care for him as long as you could. My mom lost her memory too, it was harder on my dad when she didn’t know who he was, etc. My sister took care of her until she had to be put in a home.
My friend took care of her MIL with alzheimers until they had to put her in a home. I used to go to Midland and stay with them at least once a month because I was helping him with his business. I’d be watching TV with Mary the mom, leave the room, and when I came back sometimes she’d think I just got there and hadn’t seen her lately, and I’d just play along with her. 💕
ALS is a horrible disease.
Yeah, I wanted to keep him here and hire someone but his children thought the memory care was a better option. When he first went there and the first 6 months, it was great, he made friends and they kept him busy all the time with activities, he had a walking group, he really liked it. He took a real bad turn about 3-4 months ago where he started hitting people and became aggressive and they have had to medicate him for that. While it did calm his agitation, it made his confusion worse. He is very frail now and cannot handle his grooming anymore. He is still able to feed himself and shuffle around without a walker though.
He still makes me laugh though, I did his nails yesterday and when I was done, he felt all his nails and said, “you missed one”. He had a full beard (never in his life had one) and didn’t even realize it. But when we shaved him, he felt his face and pointed out all the places we missed. It was pretty funny!
