“ The fuel gets replenished every day of eroding vax protection.”

Even with the initially high surge of antibodies in the bloodstream after vaccination, the injected vaccines that we are using don’t seem to reliably prevent initial colonization of Delta variant in the nasal cavities (sterilizing immunity). It can bloom to 1,000 times the viral load, in 2/3rds the time, as compared to the original strain.

After the initial surge of circulating antibodies declines a few months after vaccination, it seems that most vaccinated people can contract and transmit Delta (even though they are less likely to get seriously sick or die). Naturally acquired immunity seems much more effective at inducing IgE immune reactions in the nasal mucosa, to better resist such initial colonization (even though a higher proportion get seriously sick or die in the process).

As a practical matter, it seems that most everyone will have to get exposed to the virus (perhaps around 90%) to really choke off transmission of Delta. CDC estimates that over half of Americans have already been exposed. If a new variant escapes existing immunity (natural or vaccine) then we would be starting with more fuel, but as it is, we are pretty far through our population..

In places like Florida, Tokyo or India; where Delta had big runs, cases are now low already.
