I was in the Coat Guard and had to line up on a Friday to get the swine flu shot. My roommate was the ship’s corpsman and tried to sneak out of it but got caught. That Friday was the start of my “3 day weekend”, Friday night , Saturday and Sunday liberty as I was standing 1 in 4 duty. That only happens once in a blue moon as the in port duty rotation stops when we were underway. Suffice it to say it was kinda a big deal to me. I got sick Friday night, my girlfriend had me in the tub with cold water on Saturday, and I slept all day Sunday. I have not had a flu shot since and I have not had the flu since either.
My experience of getting forced to get the swine flu the shot in Air Force boot camp in 1976 was similar. Afterwards I almost collapsed on the PT field and had to spend a few days in the infirmary.
