Octopuses, crabs, and lobsters will be recognized as sentient beings under UK animal welfare laws after a review concluded there is strong evidence they are capable of feelings.
The UK government announced Friday that decapods, an order of crustaceans, and cephalopods, a class of mollusks, will now fall under the Animal Welfare (Sentience) Bill. Decapods include animals like crabs, lobsters, shrimp, prawns, and crayfish, and cephalopods include octopuses, squids, and cuttlefish.
The announcement said the bill "already recognizes all animals with a backbone (vertebrates) as sentient beings. However...decapod crustaceans and cephalopods have complex central nervous systems, one of the key hallmarks of sentience."...

worse - this from the generation we’re relying on to preserve liberty in the next world war
I dunno 'bout all that, but....do landmark gardens and successful food corporations count?
I suspected as much.
At the close of my workday, I’d head home, open the front door, and ALL my aquarium fish would be wagging their tails in the nearest corner to the front door. It was the prelude to my feeding them, but still...
She-crabs?
Says all creatures with backbones recognized as sentient beings…
Except human babies
But not unborn children, right?
Are cockroaches sentient beings? They always seem to be able to outsmart us.
But they are still found to be tasty.
I’ll drink to that. Those poor barley grains, first germinated, then when hope is fresh among them, roasted, thrown in water with some hops and slow-cooked, and then when the wort is cooled, infested with yeast and left to rot. The pain!
Now do children in the womb
more kidney pie, mom!

An octopus currently occupies the WH and fondles little children.
Good question. This is diabolical. The next step is to ban them from human consumption. Not far behind that will be cows, pigs, chickens, even dandelions.
They’ll be right at home with the other crustaceans in Parliament.
When decapods and cephalopods start caring about the pain and suffering of all the other decapods and cephalopods they eat, I’ll start caring about their feelings.
***But lobsters? Hell, yeah! They’re buck nekkid except for their shell,***
Buck nekkid? Remember the movement in 1961 to have Caroline Kennedy clothe her horse? There were organized marches in front of the White House of people carrying signs....”Caroline! Please clothe your horse!”
