Victor Davis Hanson frequently talks about the REALLY tough guys that are called on to solve problems like Sherman, LeMay, and Trump. People love the results, but are eventually repulsed by their tough, often brutal methods and, after they have accomplished their mission, unceremoniously dump them. Hanson observes that this is the theme of so many classic American Western tales like Liberty Valence and Shane.
