as it was explained to me, your phone is your key
there is a ‘valet mode’ but it only works for a short distance before it auto-stops, so valets don’t take your car on a joyride
I like a key for my key and I like to be able to start and operate my car wherever I might be, even somewhere out in the boondocks. I have been driving for nearly fifty years and have owned cars from every decade from the 1960s to the present, and that has always been a winning combination. An internet connection? I just sat down at my laptop and my connection was down. It happens often enough, but I'm at home, not trying to go someplace, so it's usually no big deal. As far as "valet mode" is concerned, I can count on one hand the times I have used a valet, the last time being about 20 years ago. Give me a car with AC, power windows, and a decent radio, and which I can fuel up at the nearest BP, Shell, or Mobil, and I'm ready to go. The good news is my driving days will be just about over before this EV thing really kicks in.
Dang. Ain’t got no phone. Guess I will have to pass on one.
