No I'm just doing other things. Been finishing up my HTPC now that we have fiber optic instead of DSL and can actually stream things. Project went on the back burner a few years ago because the choice was buffering or watch low resolution blurry stuff. Most of the free streaming websites don't have a quality setting.

While setting up my HTPC, the last thing I wanted was a desktop youtube app. Found this - https://freetubeapp.io/

Supposed to be Beta but on the KDE Discover app for finding software, it has 200 reviews and 5.0 stars. You can subscribe to channels without being signed in to youtube/google. Looks similar to youtube but no ads, no cookies, no tracking.

Ubuntu/Linux version is working flawlessly so far for me. One feature I really like is Full Window as opposed to Full Screen. I don't mind full screen for watching a movie but I generally don't like how it takes over and you can't even get to your menu. With full window, you still have a title bar and access to your menu but can maximize the window for almost full screen. They have FreeTube for Win/MAC too.

I looked over Gemini and watched a short video about it but didn't spend more than 15 minutes and never did visit this -https://www.obsessivefacts.com/gemini-proxy

To be honest, I speed read your post and didn't catch that the http address connects to gemini addresses and that the gemini links below that could all be accessed from the proxy. Pretty cool.

My first thought with gemini was, no images on a page? Why not? Since I've built some websites for other people, I quickly remembered that some people want 20 images on a single page and will send you 10 mb images straight off their digital camera.

Just installed Lagrange to check it out.

That internet in a box is not what I thought it was. You install it on the latest raspberry Pi OS or latest Linux. I'm always looking for a use for these old Thinkpads I have. Never cared for any of the small Linux distros and most won't work with any new apps. That includes gemini clients evidently, unless you go with a terminal version as opposed to GUI. Lagrange is for 64 bit and half of my old laptops are 32 bit. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gemini_(protocol)#Software

Have you seen LibreWolf browser? Tor, Brave and LibreWolf are the three most secure browsers and LibreWolf is based on Firefox which I prefer over Chromium based.

Yep, familiar with Librewolf! Man, it sure is worth getting a box working with the Lagrange. This is what we are going to have to go to soon. The normal net is broken and now dangerous. Soon it will be nothing but catalogs and stores. “Taking to each other” will be censored, controlled, and outlawed.

The Gemini personal Clients and Servers are end to end encryption using TLS certs. And because it does not utilize the indexed net and HTTP or WWW protocols it is it’s own internet space in the deep web.

No centralization and no relay nodes needed in between box to box. It is almost like a VPN tunnel connection. It is true P2P and needs no browser. The client is the browser.

It is underground, and pretty cool stuff. Now here is the thing... An organization can take that software and just change the port assignments, and create a unique url similar to the gemini: URL.

This is similar to how the TOR .onion domain was created. So an organization could literally created their own underground internet with it!

It is there somewhere. I got mine so long ago I forgot exactly where. And I am running that Easy OS right now and don’t have the Lagrange on it. I’ll try to find out where it is in the morning, I’m out, have a great evening and thanks!

It’s cool, minimal, retro, secure, no intermediary node hops, no 3rd party browsers, no central servers. Just like the old days of personal dial up servers. But one can build a small server easily even on a laptop if they wanted to. The only issue is there is no central server 24-7. So if someone’s server is off you just can’t pull up their home page. Small inconvenience considering the benefits and security of the space and protocol. So no one is home... Big deal, Just try back later. I’m sure to be secure from the powers that be we can live with that. :)

I’m going to move to PM because I have a project I am working on I want to share off board with you.
