Following a tumultuous year for Tesla including a company relocation helmed by CEO Elon Musk, viral reports of cars on fire and other self-admitted quality control issues, Tesla has plummeted on Consumer Reports’ annual list of most-reliable carmakers.
The electric car manufacturer now ranks 27th out of 28 car brands on Consumer Reports’ list, above only Ford-owned legacy luxury brand Lincoln. Much of it has to do with the overall instability of electric vehicles in general — especially SUVs — which Consumer Reports’ Jake Fisher said during a presentation are the “absolute bottom in terms of reliability,” according to Reuters.
Among the concerns Consumer Reports had for the Tesla Model S, X and Y lines, according to CNBC, were issues with “heat pumps, air conditioning” and notoriously, misaligned panels. It’s also worth noting that Tesla’s Model X ranked dead-last among all cars for reliability, scoring a 5 out of 100.
The issue, Consumer Reports’ Fisher told CNBC, is that the company has the tendency to “add so much tech that is not necessary.” And while this makes for a product that varies wildly from year to year, it is part of the Tesla brand that enthusiasts adore.

Exactly. They still rate high in customer satisfaction because they give people an excuse to talk about “ their Tesla.”
I have not believed consumer reports since the 80’s when they ranked the Chevy Tahoe as less crash worthy than a Yugo. Yes, they did.
I never thought Teslas looked cool, They look plain and uninspired and I would never buy one. Give me gas and lots of it so I can go somewhere.

Otherwise, why buy one of these, given the incredible efficiency of gasoline cars and the infrastructure to support them?
Their customer service is nonexistent as well.

Uh uh. I’m a girl and I love cars. Why would I care what some guy drives? I want the car myself! What good is it to you if someone else drives it?
Tesla is now like the smartphone industry.
Nothing muck new to add, so, just dress them up with ‘new’ technology and new colors and harder screens and bodies, and hopefully somebody will fall for it. Meanwhile, most of what people use them for is Facebook and Twitter and Google and Youtube, which people can do on just about any smartphone.

They are indeed questionable. They’ve been liberal hacks for decades.
Not too long ago they had a piece (probably due to Obamacare) all about how good socialized medicine is and how they’ve been proudly hawking it for decades. They proved it with reprints of long-past pieces regarding medical insurance etc.
I never much liked their car reviews. But then, I’m biased for American and they seemed to always be put down. Never mind by ignoring important things, such as reliability can only be judged after a long time. Sort of like the vaccines now.
High parts count = less reliability.
More complication = less reliability, higher cost and low repairability

I’ll give you one guess which country is the biggest producer of all of the above.
The average income of Tesla owners is $140,000. But everyone who pays taxes has helped subsidize those high income owners. Low income people face higher electric bills for grid improvements required to charge more EVs.
I don’t know about the reliability. I test drove one back when they only had one model, maybe 2nd or 3rd year out. It was kinda cool, except, the driver’s seat was awful. My dad was riding in the back and he said he was sliding all across the bench seat too. It was straight out of a 70’s era Chevy truck. For the money, there were much better “luxury” packages available from internal combustion cars. Tech is cool and can be convenient if done right but not at the expense of comfort and safety, and they did it well but not right imo. Direct drive was fun, but suspension was miserable. My dad talked me out of it.
Maybe they are better now. I have nothing against electric personally. Just don’t think the infrastructure exists to support a fast transition - would probably take 20+ years and a crap ton of subsidies. Ultimately wind and solar won’t work without huge batteries (since solar is useless at night when people want to charge their cars every house needs a battery to capture solar). The left’s dream on this is fine, and it will happen, but not on their timeline. And probably not without a lot of investment building out nuclear plants which many on the far left adamantly oppose. But, the medium left will go for nuclear because it benefits their donors.
