Agreed — this is a good thing. Each state should have its own state guard or militia NOT answerable to the federal government.

I believe most if not all States do. It’s called the Unorganized Militia. Age requirements and exceptions may vary from State to State, but if you’re not in the organized military, including the National Guard which is the organized militia, and you meet the age requirements and don’t have an exception, you’re in the unorganized militia.

The Federal Government has requirements for the unorganized militia at a national level too.

Some State “unorganized militias” are more organized than others. Ohio has the “Ohio Military Reserve”, which has gotten to be less military over the years in terms of weapon use. I think Texas has something too.

I wonder what would happen if they tried to call out the unorganized militia given most people in it don’t know they are in it.

We, the tax payers, are more than willing to fund a opposing force of state militia. Our states mostly require it but something happened about 170 years ago that made fedgov supreme.
