I have heard when this happens (you are lost etc) you are supposed to change your answering message on your phone to something like "help me, I'm lost in the forest etc etc and I left on etc etc and I'm near etc etc".

Apparently tho your phone MAY die, the answering message can be a "director" for people at least to get an idea what may have happened and where to start to look....

Bad advice, according to most Search & Rescue (SAR) experts. They advise using the remaining battery to send a group text with that same info to everybody in your Contacts list. The text message/SMS uses considerably less battery power while increasing the likelihood of getting the information to someone who can get help.
