Old-time liberal: “I am disgusted by that man’s behavior. But he has the right to express his opinions.”
Modern liberal: “I am disgusted by that man’s behavior. He is a hater and a terrorist. Arrest him!”
I think it was just a general belief that a person can speak thier mind in America for a long time. Didn’t even matter what was said. Both parties agreed with this basic 1st amendment right.
