It’s like asking Eddie Van Halen about tapping.

EVH took a lot of secrets to his grave. His "Brown Sound" from the early VH albums. Was it a stock Marshall Plexi? A modded Marshall Plexi? A variac? Ted Templeman's studio wizardry? Or just Eddie's fingers? He was never clear and often changed his story.

Can't blame him. That was HIS sound and he wanted to keep it.

Ted Templeman produced a LOT of very high quality albums - VH, Little Feat/Lowell George, Doobies, Nicolette Larson, Van Morrison, Carly Simon...just to name a few.

He often produced at the VERY iconic Sunset Studios where The Doors recorded their early albums....and just a 5-minute drive from my front door many moons ago.

Fun Fact: He was lead singer/guitarist for a one-hit wonder group (Harpers Bizarre) for their hit “Feelin’ Groovy”.
