I once read an analysis of mob mentality by a psychologist. He said what makes a mob dangerous is that the mental level of a mob is set by the one with the lowest intelligence.

Long ago, I was in a mob once and you’re totally right. It’s scary to think of what we would have done to the people that we were after (although they still would have deserved it!). But thankfully, they had another way out.

Sometimes you can't avoid it.

I was at the Steeler's game when Franco Harris made the Immaculate Reception and got caught up in the frenzy and fell down {alcohol was involved}.

I had several broken ribs, broken glasses and a bloody nose and no one intentionally hit me, it was just a product of being slammed around in a crowd.

This was not planned nor was it avoidable, it happened on an exit ramp.

So true. The mob psychology can be deadly. You somehow justify doing things you would normally never do. One woman is dead because she did that in the capitol building on January 6th. I’m not saying it justifies what happened to her. Rather, the behavior brings risk.

Same with some of the people that ended up in DC Gitmo (but not all. Some were arrested simply for being there).
