As much as I despise the incompetent and petty Peanut Farmer, that was Nixon who imposed the price controls. I will forever respect Nixon for his Linebacker II campaign in 1972 that brought the North Vietnamese Communists to the bargaining table and eventually the Paris Peace Treaty, but...he implemented those price controls, damn him.

>>Just like Carter did which resulted in gas shortages, long lines and that stupid ass 55 MPH speed limit<<

Leftist screw up everything they put their hands to. I remember the Carter days, the gas lines, odd/even license plate days and yes...that stupid 55mph speed limit out on the open highways.

From time to time I’ll be traveling down the road in my beloved state of Texas which incidentally has an 80mph speed limit on desolate rural roads..slow my speed to 55mph to remind myself of how idiotic these leftist environmental regulations really are.

plastic instead of paper bags, margarine rather than butter, egg substitutes, smart cars, gas cans with leftist protections incorporated...on and on. All foisted on us by these nut job leftist.

I understand your point, but diesel and gasoline are to crude like yogurt, cheese, and ice cream are to raw milk, they are derivative.

Decreasing the supply of oil or milk will have the effect of decreasing the supply of things derived from it.

Of course, that is yet another area where our country is in crisis right now, one that is unknown to most people because it is not “glamorous”...that our refinery infrastructure is old, decrepit, and crumbling.

They are operating at such high capacity that they cannot go down for routine maintenance without affecting production of the derivatives severely.

The last major oil refinery (large capacity) in the USA was built in 1977!

***********************************************
From the US Energy Information Administration:
As of January 1, 2021, there were 129 operable petroleum refineries in the United States.

The newest refinery in the United States is the Targa Resources Corporation’s 35,000 barrels per calendar day (b/cd) condensate splitter in Channelview, Texas, which began operating in 2019. Condensate splitters are distillation units that process condensate, which is lighter than crude oil. Splitter capacity is included as atmospheric distillation units in U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) data.

However, the newest refinery with significant downstream unit capacity is Marathon’s facility in Garyville, Louisiana. That facility came online in 1977 with an initial atmospheric distillation unit capacity of 200,000 b/cd, and as of January 1, 2021, it had a capacity of 578,000 b/cd.
***********************************************

My guess is that this has largely to do with the Left in general, and environmentalists in particular. Damn them all to Hell.

The people in the little bubble are clueless as to what is going on outside of it.

Yes...I remember watching Nixon on TV. He started the 55 MPH and the 68 degree thermostat setting. He also banned outside Xmas lights that year.

Worst yet, OPEC creates a fraction (the 36%) of the world oil supply.

The world’s major oil producers, 2020:

US (not) 11.3

Russia (not) 9.9

Saudi Arabia (OPEC) 9.2

Canada (not) 4.2

Iraq (OPEC, sorta) 4.1

China (not) 3.9

UAE (OPEC) 3.1

Brazil (not) 2.9

I hold Jennifer Granholm in a special kind of contempt. Her utter failure as Governess of Michigan cost me an 18 year career and gave me the opportunity to take a job 600 miles away, live apart from my family for eight months while trying to see the house, selling the house at a $75,000 loss, uprooting my entire family, well you get the idea.

She’s nothing but a useless skank and typical of the failures Brandon hires.

She was probably the worst governor Michigan ever had.

Two things to notice that the war on gasoline is fake.

Why has the government not dropped the seed limit to 55 MPH as they did in the 1970s. I got my first “speeding ticket then” for doing 70 MPH on the Interstate highway, a few hours after the limit was dropped.

I watched an old movie on TCM last night in which Ann Miller says she has to survive on 4 gallons of gas a week.

Why has the government not issued “A” cards to cut the use of fuel? Those who remember “A” cards in WW II will understand.

“...s as incompetent in her Secretary of Energy position as Peter Butt. is playing Secretary of Energy.”

This.
Of course South Bend, Ind. does have streets, I guess that qualifies Pete B and they do make cars in Mich., so I guess that’s where Granholm’s qualifications come from.

I should have said Peter Butt. is playing Sec’y of Transportation. But he is busy parenting.

I remember the Carter days & if these two(Biden & Grandholm) want to be thought of as we felt about Carter...well just keep it up. Carter was bad news & you two are following in his footsteps, it seems. How can you talk about unifying the American people when you are doing the exact opposite?

Well adopting a kid really takes a toll on one. Just wondering if he’s getting paid during his parental leave and if all federal employees get the same deal.
