To: Captain Walker
There was an incident in the South Pacific some years ago where another boat rammed into the side of an underwater mountain; the speed at which the boat was going resulted in a sailor being thrown against a bulkhead with sufficient force to cost him his life.

2005, USS San Francisco, SSN 711. Google ship name and see the tremendous damage it did. Ship was lucky to survive.

Thanks for that tidbit.

(I had to look up that name myself because I was responding to another poster's comment. While I recalled that the ship was traveling at a high rate of speed, I didn't realize until now that it was apparently going all out.)

(One of those on board described the aftermath of a collision as a "slaughterhouse", as there was apparently blood everywhere; it seems as if they are fortunate that they only lost one life.)
