Funny thing, I’m a life long NYSer. And I’ve never seen or heard of anyone serving sweet potatoes with marshmallows.
Maybe it’s a Downstate thing...

Nothing wrong with you. Like I said in a previous post, some local news story probably mentioned it, and a bunch of NYers said, "ewww" and looked it up.
The people in NY who "searched" for "this dish were NOT looking for a recipe to make it. The stuff they like they already know how to make.
I am from Connecticut, and while the marshmallow thing is know, it is not common. However, it is huge in the midwest and the deep south, where I have also lived.
My Canadian wife was quite disgusted and gawked in disbelief when she first witnessed it in Rockford, Illinois. But then, in Rockford, the owner of my old company made a special salad to go with the company pizza that included sliced bananas. "Ewwwww!"
