Agree. They're gross. Looks like a seagull pooped in the dish. I always pass on that.
Last year, a family member made Paula Deen's sweet potatoes, and they had some sort of brown sugar crunchy topping. It was a huge upgrade.
I'm a Southerner, and my family always had cornbread dressing when I was growing up... there are still good-hearted squabbles about which matriarch made the best.

I’m from East Texas, right on the border with Louisiana. We always had cornbread stuffing, sometime collard greens, and sweet potato pie.
I still love the cornbread stuffing, but the rest has gone to the wayside. I just love the look of the turkey on the table, all five children and 2 son in laws sitting around our ‘huge’ table, and listening to the conversations.
A big family is the best treat at Thanksgiving and cannot be beat for these festivities.
