An Italian restaurateur, dubbed the 'father of tiramisu', has died aged 93.
Ado Campeol, the original owner of Le Beccherie restaurant in Treviso in northeastern Italy, died at his home on Saturday.
Although disputed, Mr Campeol and his wife, Alba, are considered to be the inventors of the famous dessert.
The dish, now a staple of Italian cuisine, was never patented by the family, but appeared on the restaurant menu in 1972.
Le Beccherie, one of the oldest restaurants in Treviso, was opened by the Campeol family in 1939.
But it wasn't until Mrs Campeol was pregnant in 1955 that tiramisu was invented.
Campeol’s son Carlo, who now runs the restaurant, said: 'When Alba was breastfeeding me a few years earlier, she had turned to mascarpone mixed with sugar and biscuits soaked in coffee to keep her energy up, which is traditional in Treviso.'

I thought that too in the beginning. The word doesn't look Italian, but it's colloquial for "pick me up."
When I learned it was Italian, I also heard it started out as a favorite treat of prostitutes, so I assumed it had a long history and didn't know that it only went back 60 years.
LOL dunno it looked like a turkey leg
It was a sort of cooking demonstration show where you could sample items
I ran into (literally) a local female news anchor. Didn’t realize who I bumped into until she turned around. It was a pretty minor bump into 😅.

The ‘Working Girls’ probably needed that sweetness of the Tiramisu, to pep them up after carrying wood all night.
FRequently found on fine dining menus globally and cruise ships too.. high on the must try list,, German Black Forest cake and key lime pie are too ..
Nummy yummy legacy. RIP.
I loved Tiramisu before I got diabetes 1; now I’m diabetes 2 and on Metformin and Jardiance.
Last week I went to an Italian restaurant in New York with a colleague. He’s related to the owner. We were treated like kings and it was the most memorable meal of my life.
Of course we ended with tiramisu
