By a quirk of fate, I spent the day before Halloween researching for and writing this article—on exorcism. (I trust that the timing was, as they say, “coincidental”). Sophia Institute Press, the publishers of the just-released book, Diary of an American Exorcist , had asked me to review it; being no expert in but naturally finding such a topic fascinating, I agreed, and also ended up briefly interviewing its author, Stephen J. Rossetti, a Catholic priest and licensed psychologist.
You might be happy to know that carving a jack-o-lantern or taking your kids trick-or-treating are, overall, safe occupations, according to Rossetti. Still, the day itself sees much by way of diabolical activity—not least as it has come to venerate Evil and its denizens; and some, added the priest, inadvertently open themselves up to more than just some “festive fun.”
In fact, the source of virtually all demonization—the most literal translation of the word used in the New Testament—is some sort of occult activity that is generally seen as harmless but which inadvertently opens a doorway to evil. Paganism, which is making a comeback—and which Rossetti vociferously called “stupid” and needlessly regressive—is one of the most common such “portals.” Witches are real, and some of his toughest cases have revolved around lifting a witch’s curse off someone.
Putting this day’s spooky significance aside, the book is eye-opening and should challenge the beliefs of even the most skeptical. For starters, it is probably the first book available that was specifically written for exorcists—a day-to-day guide on what they can expect, based on Rossetti’s own experiences, which began fourteen years ago when his bishop called on him to use his clinical expertise to assess whether a victim was truly being demonized or whether they were suffering from a mental disorder.

Here’s something interesting....
On the motive of demons—“Don’t they know they’re doomed; what’s their point?” I asked rhetorically—he said, “Imagine a narcissistic psychopath; that’s how they behave.” Logic has nothing to do with it.
He shared how during one exorcism, a demon—that is to say, a markedly different voice emanating from the person being exorcised—confessed that it regretted disobeying God and that it was suffering, but on being asked if it could go back in time and not rebel, would it do so—it ferociously shrieked “Never!”
No biblical bases for any of this sensationalist rigamarole.
None?
Jesus cast out demons, and said his disciples would have the power to do so as well.

“Jesus cast out demons, and said his disciples would have the power to do so as well.”
Exactly.
And none of this exorcism folderol and big show sensationalism and superstition has anything to do with how the Bible taught about it.

Yes.
Nothing these charlatans do is anything like what is taught in the Bible.
He has also done numerous interviews and talks available on YouTube and spiritualdirection.com
“Why you do this to me, Dimi?”
I ordered this book yesterday. It’s been a while since I’ve read anything on the topic, and I wanted an update from a new voice.
Exorcism is commonly reported in the Gospels. What are you talking about? I suspect that your problem is that it is a Catholic priest who wrote the book.

Nothing approximating the Hollywood dog and pony show of “ exorcists” is ever reported in the bible.
You won’t read this book, but if you did you would find that your. adolescent view of exorcism is based on Hollywood, not reality.
When you pray for a blind person, do you rub mud and spittle on them?

I’m saying the exorcism racket is like the Hollywood sensationalism and extra-Biblical superstition.
It’s nothing like what is in the Bible.

The dog and pony shows of “exorcists” has nothing to do with casting out demons as presented in the Bible.
What method of exorcism do you use?
“What method of exorcism do you use?”
Accepting Christ. Prayer. Bible study. Fellowship.
There are relatively few actual demonic spirits. They are evil spirits who never had a physical body of their own.
There are a lot of mis-guided souls that are stuck here after being recruited by the demons.
The misguided souls are relatively easy to overpower as they are afraid that the Light will kill them. They can be stacked several layers deep, one inside another with the newer layer totally unaware of the deeper layers. Five layers deep is common, the most I ever encountered is nine layers deep.
Souls at different layers can speak different languages when confronted.
There is a hierarchy in the demonic realm just as their is in the angelic realm.
Earlier this week I encountered a misguided that was a young man stuck here after being killed in an auto accident. He paralyzed the man he moved into with severe pain. The pain left instantly when he did.
I’ve been doing these for over 30 years. While psychiatric disorders can be a problem, virtually all possessed people have psychiatric problems.
My wife is an MD Psychiatrist and I discuss everything with her after the event as a review. Some are very bizarre, even more than the movie “The Exorcist.”
It’s easy to get stung by one if you are not careful. I’ve been stung many times over the years as if I slip up they try to kill me. Prayer does the work, not me. I just listen to the words flowing through me as the work is done.
Many years ago I realized that viruses have their own consciousness separate from the individual they attack. My perception of Covid is that it is opening the door to the Matthew 13 weeds. That’s another topic for discussion.
