The Big Sur Land Trust has announced that hiking reservations are now open for Mitteldorf Preserve in Carmel Valley as the installation of a new bridge has been completed, providing access to more than 1,000 acres of landscape.
“One of the great benefits of having this new bridge in place is it’s going to help us manage the rest of the property better with safe access and get to some of those structures as well,” said Big Sur Land Trust President and CEO Jeannette Tuitele-Lewis.
Mitteldorf Preserve served as a critical access point to the backcountry in and around the Santa Lucia Preserve during the Soberanes Fire in 2016. The fire and subsequent heavy winter rains damaged the property and since that time the Big Sur Land Trust stewardship team has been securing permits and funding to install the new bridge.
