A huge Pacific storm is poised to unleash conditions known as an “atmospheric river”, with torrential rains and strong winds putting about 10 million people at risk of flash floods in parts of northern California this weekend.
The incoming tempest has raised fears of mudslides, especially in areas charred during record-setting wildfires this summer.
Some parts of the Pacific north-west, including coastal Oregon, are also expected to see heavy rains and winds, the Bloomberg news website reported.

Better wear three masks.

Wow
“…Global heating has exacerbated weather extremes, including heightening the potential for sudden shifts from arid conditions to sweeping downpours, with such conditions becoming more common….”

“Global heating”? Has their politburo issued instructions to use this new fear porn terminology? Or is this a trial balloon?
Mud slide and flash flood season...
8 inches of water 🌊🌊🌊 in some places?
Yikes
Yeah, we got a whole 2 hundredths of an inch today (south central WA).
It’s a shame CA has no effective means of capturing said water.
Lack of planning ahead & all being the state’s forte’.
But then again, it’s not about the water (the drought): It’s about politics (climate change).

Pathetic fear porn. Now a leftist paper in the UK is doing California weather stories?
It needs a power wash.
What kind of an impacts on huge container ships as anchored off the coast do you anticipate from a couple inches of rain?
“ It’s a shame CA has no effective means of capturing said water.…”

Yep… if only California had dams backed up by largely empty reservoirs.
I thought Brandon was supposed to stop this? Better get Greta on the line.
Someday a real rain will come...
It poured for awhile here in Seattle this evening. A friend of ours moved back from S. Carolina. And lived in Southern California for awhile.
“Why did I move back here? 80’s in Carolina, the monthly forecast in California is 72 degrees and sunny.”
30 years in Seattle and I’m still not used to the rain. Although my kid that lives elsewhere - “Boy - I sure miss the rain!”
The weather changed. Blame mankind for not accepting communism.
We’ll see what happens
I’ve been witness to storms like this
several years ago. I grew up in the
bay area. Soggy mudslide winters are the
norm.
8” of rain equals about 6’ of snow.
Though this is a large storm, it’s not
unheard of for the northern California
region. The Doner Party were witnesses.
Lake Oroville update:
https://water.ca.gov/News/Blog/2021/October/Oroville-Update-10-22-21
“The elevation of Oroville’s reservoir is about 629 feet elevation and storage is about 792,000-acre-feet, which is 22 percent of its total capacity and 37 percent of historical average. Water year 2022 is starting off with a series of atmospheric river storms making landfall in northern California over the next six days. The Feather River watershed is forecasted to see up to 10 inches of rain during that time.
Although the storms will not be enough to end the drought conditions, they will provide much needed rainfall to the very dry Feather River watershed. Saturated soils in the watershed will result in higher runoff into streams, rivers, and reservoirs and is anticipated to result in an approximately 20-feet increase in Lake Oroville’s lake elevation. Visitors are advised to park well above lake level when visiting or boating on the lake.”
Ah, OK
