For those here who may not be familiar with firearms...the movie is a western. In the 1880’s. That means the firearm would be a single action.
Whether it was an accurate replica or a more modern gun or whether the gun handed to Baldwin was even the same one used in the movie, we have not been told.
But all single action revolvers must be cocked before they can be fired. The point is this was not an accidental discharge if it was the gun used in the film. There is more to all of this than meets the eye at this point.
