My understanding (and it’s early days yet, so take all information with a bucket of salt) is that there was, in fact, no actual armorer. Just a prop manager, and clearly no one in charge of the weapon itself, or of making sure that anyone who handled it was properly instructed in gun safety. Think of it; every gun safety basic was ignored.

I've heard many different stories. One is that they were going cheap and not hiring an on-set gun wrangler (armorer). If true, then it falls to the prop-master. However the water on this is way too cloudy and getting cloudier by the day. Wait until they bring the lawyers in to chum up the water more.🦈🦈
