Alec Baldwin 'Rust' camera crew walked off the set in protest before the fatal shooting [Baldwin's stunt-double accidentally fired two rounds Saturday after being told that the gun was "cold"]

They said at least one of the camera operators complained last weekend to production managers about gun safety on the set.

Three crew members who were present at the Bonanza Creek Ranch set that day said they were particularly concerned about two accidental prop gun discharges on Saturday.

Baldwin's stunt-double accidentally fired two rounds Saturday after being told that the gun was "cold" — lingo for a weapon that doesn't have any ammunition, including blanks, one of crew members who witnessed the episode told the Los Angeles Times.

"There should have been an investigation into what happened," said the crew member. "There were no safety meetings. There was no assurance that it wouldn't happen again. All they wanted to do was rush, rush, rush."

A colleague was so alarmed by the prop gun misfires he sent a text message to the unit production manager. "We've now had 3 accidental discharges. This is super unsafe," according to a copy of the message reviewed by the Times.

If it’s a just a blank then it’s not ammunition.

Blank Ammunition is proper and accepted terminology when speaking about motion picture sets, special effects, set safety rules and procedures, as evidenced here:

Pound sand.

As much as I dislike AB I can’t blame him for being handed a prop pistol that was loaded or handled improperly before him. He may have created an atmosphere that lead up to this tragedy through some business decisions but I don’t expect him to actually have to inspect and verify individually every prop gun on the set. That was somebody else’s responsibility and they failed.

According to actor Robert Davi, the actor handed the gun also bears responsibility to re-check the gun.

Good to know. Hopefully we’ll see an accurate investigation and report sooner than later.

He may not have even realized that people left. The complaints were made to the production manager, not him. I’ve been on a couple of movie sets during filming and there’s a lot of people around. The stars don’t mingle with people they’re not directly involved with. So why would he notice that 3 or 4 people left? And if he did, maybe he wasn’t told the real reason. Don’t want to upset the ‘Star’, we’ll tell him later.

I’ve been on movie sets too, with the producer there. And especially with this sort of small-budget films, you don’t have an on-site producer and actor unaware of accidental discharges or a staff walkout with replacements hired.

I don’t know. Guess we’ll just have to wait for more info to come out.

Yep. Maybe it will come out and maybe it won’t. Certainly we can’t conclude much if anything from our perspective.

He’s also the producer. So he’s “on the hook” twice.

Yes, and as the producer he has much more responsibility.

Baldwin failed in his duty to hire competent professionals for many positions in this production including the highly critical safety supervision of Armorer.

Baldwin attempted to produce this film on the cheap, refused to pay crew members, refused to provide agreed upon housing, meals, support and work conditions.

Baldwin unjustly fired and replaced critical safety trained individuals and replaced them with untrained local groupies, and Baldwin did this with malice toward those he mistreated.

If there's an honest Prosecutor in New Mexico, Baldwin is in trouble.

I’m guessing here but a Western film probably uses an old style wheel gun which is probably single action, we all know on a s/a gun for it to shoot you have to pull the hammer back then pull the trigger.

baldie is toast. At least huge civil damages. As producer, failing to act on prior incidents may very well incur criminal liability.

If you’re out of bullets, you’re out of ammo and if you’ve got a few blanks in your pocket, you’re still out of ammo.

I agree...not arguing that point. My point, these blanks are able to kill.

Guns are going to be the target

Wait and see...
= = =

Yep.

The guns were told that they were ‘cold’, but they made themselves ‘hot’.

I don’t think “misfire” means the same thing to these ignorant actors as it means to people who understand firearms.

# In fact, some of the newer airsoft guns cycle and look just like the real thing while doing it.

I have one of those. It is excellent for training. The only thing you don’t get is recoil, which actually helps the shooter not to flinch.

I can see democrats using this in their never-ending campaign to disarm all of us

There’ll be committee hearings to ban all guns in TV and movies before turkey day

So how exactly would Baldwin have ‘checked’ a cap and ball revolver?

Dump out all the power charges and wadding, and look for a ball?

I’ve heard from several sources now that Baldwin was the producer; so the decision to cheap out on a proper armorer are directly on his asinine head. But we do have to wait for the chaff to settle out before we get a clear picture.
