The incident sounds like a movie plot; or a tee vee series’ episode.

Without doing some research, I think there was an episode of Perry Mason in the second series where a star shoots the film’s producer on set.

Actually, might have been Perry Mason Season 9. The episode entitled
“Case of the Final Fade Out” from 1966.
The actual murderer
was played by Dick Clark (American Bandstand).
