I was a busboy, bell hop, set up convention rooms etc wherever they needed me. It was super fast paced. If you took your 15 minute break you would never catch up.
I had to have been burning 4-5000 calories per shift. It was grueling. I was thin and was playing 2 sports during the school year
I remember grabbing fillet mignon’s and eating them out of my hand no plate or utensils in the kitchen taking a minute break before running back out into the fray.
I bet I was eating 4000-5000 calories easily every day.
After work we would sit out in cars drinking beers making out with the older waitresses.
I hated the job but would go back in a minute.
We did conventions too from time to time- sometimes there weren’t enough folks to get the convention up and running in short enough time, so they’d call on us in room service to help out- Yep- it’s very fast paced-
I know what you mean about grueling fast pace- our room service catered to the whole island which was about a mile around the parameter- but we did have vans- but the halls to get to the vans were super long- I can’t count how many dishes i smashed rushing to get back to the room service room to start prepping the next orders- thankfully they were smashed taking the dirty dishes back from the rooms- We of course wheeled the food for the rooms slower- although one fella dumped a whole cart full of food once- the table cloth caught in the wheels- Wasn’t pretty lol-
Room service was great- lots of tip money- but wow did we have to hustle for it- there were several floors to the main building- and when it came to rounding up the dirty dishes- it was quite the chore- I can’t even begin to imagine how many miles a day we ran- but yeah- it was a fun job-
