A 21-year-old woman in Oklahoma has been found guilty of first-degree manslaughter after suffering a miscarriage last year.
On Oct. 5, Brittney Poolaw was sentenced to four years in prison for her 2020 miscarriage. An autopsy on the unborn child revealed it had died at 17 weeks gestation.
Prosecutors on the case blamed Poolaw’s miscarriage on her drug use. However, some advocates for the mother, such as the National Advocates for Pregnant Women, have argued that her conviction is not in line with the law.
“Oklahoma’s murder and manslaughter laws do not apply to miscarriages, which are pregnancy losses that occur before 20 weeks, a point in pregnancy before a fetus is viable (able to survive outside of the womb),” said the NAPW, a non-profit advocacy organization, in a statement on Wednesday.
Under the law, a mother cannot be prosecuted for causing the death of their unborn child “unless the mother committed a crime” that caused its death.
In Oct. 2020, the Lawton Constitution reported that Poolaw was accused of causing her child to be stillborn on January 4, 2020, due to her intravenous methamphetamine use.
An affidavit said the woman, who was 19 at the time, was taken to Comanche County Memorial Hospital after she reportedly gave birth at home, per the report. Poolaw later admitted to medical staff she had consumed meth and marijuana and tested positive for both.
The medical examiner’s report listed the unborn child’s cause of death as intrauterine fetal demise due to maternal meth use, the Constitution reported. A toxicology report on the fetus showed the brain and liver had tested positive for meth and amphetamine.
At trial, however, an OBGYN that testified for the state said that controlled substances may not have directly caused of death for the fetus.
The NAPW also argued that blaming Poolaw’s miscarriage on her use of controlled substances is “contrary to all medical science.”
Mothers who murder their daughters and sons, including daughters and sons who are between conception and birth, clearly do not love their daughters and sons.
Murder is the opposite of love and the two do not coexist.
Women who take that action are 100% culpable for their own actions.
Men are 0% culpable for the actions that women take.
Most of the fathers of the babies would be happy to raise their daughters and sons on their own if the mothers of the babies would simply refrain from murdering the babies between conception and birth.
Your post portrays mothers as the Owner of the couple’s daughters and sons, which results in the couple’s daughters and sons being treated as the Property of the mother, which is the core of the problem.
That ideology is why abortion is legal as “a woman’s right to choose”, or more accurately, “a mother’s right to choose”.
Also, mandated paternity tests of every baby at birth would resolve any questions about the paternity of babies, but for some reason a lot of women object to that.

“Murder” is NOT the same even as “manslaughter” and certainly not the same as an unintentional accident.
This is exactly what I knew would happen - this case is being conflated with abortion. Erroneously.
The girl had a miscarriage. She’s an idiot, obviously, screwing around, getting pregnant, and loving drugs. But that doesn’t mean she tried to kill the baby.
Most fathers probably would be “happy”, but so would most mothers. Irrelevant.
SOME definitely want to screw all they want with no responsibility for what that does. Men do NOT bear the brunt of that responsibility, period; that is nature - they just don’t. So it is *very* easy for a man to say “no way I want a kid” (and the VAST majority WILL NOT ‘RAISE’ THEM EITHER) - just the sex, please.

Believing men all want the woman to have their kid (again, easy for them to say), and men want to raise them. More like men want to screw, and leave the woman with whatever.
Check out urban blight if you want a glimpse into how men view this in an immoral society. At best they want trophies - signs of their virility (borne out by nature where males desire to spread their genes) - but none of the work. Never mind the natural pain and suffering for 9 months.
