WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Former President Donald Trump on Monday sued the U.S. congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, claiming members made an illegal request for his White House records.
Trump, in a lawsuit https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.dcd.236632/gov.uscourts.dcd.236632.1.0.pdf filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, asserted that materials sought by the House of Representatives committee are covered by a legal doctrine known as executive privilege, which protects the confidentiality of some White House communications.
“The Committee’s requests are unprecedented in their breadth and scope and are untethered from any legitimate legislative purpose,” Trump’s lawyer Jesse Binnall wrote in the lawsuit.
Committee members Liz Cheney, a Republican from Wyoming, and Bennie Thompson, a Democrat from Mississippi, said in a written statement issued in response to Trump’s lawsuit that the former president was seeking to “delay and obstruct” their investigation.
“It’s hard to imagine a more compelling public interest than trying to get answers about an attack on our democracy and an attempt to overturn the results of an election,” Cheney and Thompson said in the statement.
Hundreds of Trump supporters stormed the seat of Congress on Jan. 6 in a failed bid to prevent lawmakers from certifying Democratic President Joe Biden’s election victory. More than 600 people face criminal charges stemming from the event.

“Attack on the Capital”!? From oann too?
The ‘siege’ was staged — all of it.
Keep an open mind.
Discovery should be interesting.
If that is the case, I want total transparency, I want all docs, phone calls/records, schedules, everything, police files, stuff on MAGA people that were Antifa taking overclothes off in the Bushes, National Archives stuff. No parties should be stonewalling any of this if it were a massive conspiracy and staged. In my book, anybody not forthcoming on any of this stuff likely has something to hide. No exceptions or stalling by anyone.
Yes.
Why the “air quotes”?
You did see the videos.
Did you not?
There are over 500 of them on one website alone.
They were grabbed by ProPublica and archived from many personal rank and file grassroots folks’ cellphones with video shot from different positions on that day—before they all had the chance to scrub them and before the FBI fanned out nationwide making hundreds of arrests. I have already seen maybe 100 of these videos.
They are violent.
Here, look for yourself...https://projects.propublica.org/parler-capitol-videos/
The LAST thing the government provides in cases of government malfeasance and overreach, is transparency. These are fundamentally dishonest institutions.

That January 6 Commission is taking that advice, and claiming that Trump has something to hide. The claim is that Trump fired up the crowd to violence - this is piled on top of the claim that "election was stolen" is "the big lie."
Which government agency do you think the goons were in the employ of?
On the other issue, surely President Trump has nothing to hide. How could any of his correspondence or actions, or what he did after returning to the WH from The Mall on 6 January be of a problematic nature?
The rats are going to run out the clock on this. On a good note, if the Pubs win back both houses in 2022, this is over. If the rats hold, Trump will be too old to run in 2028 so this will go away Jan 20 2025.
Me? I don’t think AG Garland will move on this, particularly. But we shall see. It will move a lot slower than most people think.
The “insurrection “ was a made-for-TV event.
Definitely. Just the fact that the committee seeks the Presidents records while hiding the footage of the event should be dispositive.
FBI.

Agreed.
Not interested in dialog with you, so Q you can ponder or disregard. Was there any "issue" that Trump had to hide from the Mueller investigation? Impeachment investigations? A fresh impeachment investigation? Surely Trump had nothing to hide there, either.
Reckon we’re gonna git aforesaid transparency?
