DETROIT – Action by the Detroit Public Schools Community District is swift Tuesday night following a huge brawl at East English Village Preparatory Academy.
“We talked to the faculty after school today. We’re not going to have school tomorrow (Wednesday) in order to make tensions ease a bit and we’ll have students and faculty back on Thursday,” said Nikolai Vitti, DPSCD superintendent.
Vitti announced the shocking news during a school board meeting.
“During the lunch, we had a food fight that led to multiple fights in the building,” said Vitti.
That brawl from inside the lunchroom was recorded and posted on social media. The video showed someone throwing a chair and hitting a Detroit police officer.(snip)
“There were 10 arrests and it was determined that the fight was linked to gang activity. What happened today is unacceptable and with the right systems and structures put in place, the extra support, the extra monitoring, and problem solving, this will stop,” Vitti said.
Vitti said they are partnering with Detroit police to have a gang unit in the building. There will be extra security guards and officers at the school on Thursday. Counselors will also be available.

Be less white
Actually, it once was effective to call schools in black neighborhoods Academies and expecting kids to do well. It really worked. But that was perhaps 20 years ago, now the gang violence, etc requires bars on the windows and doors and jailers roaming the halls. Sad, really. There are always good kids in these places who really want to learn and are capable of it.
Sux, as the kids say.
“ Kierkegaardian existentialists vs. Kantian Categorical Imperativists. Naturally, violence was the only resort..”
You win the Internet all day tomorrow. Congratulations!
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
Charter schools and vouchers would go a long way toward fixing the ‘education’ problem.

I think this would be a wonderful opportunity to pause for a moment and give thanks for the great contributions of the Black community to our society. Their peaceful and generous nature makes them ideal neighbors, lending testimony to their exceptional family values and parenting skills unrivaled by any other culture.
Their propensity for peaceful resolutions to every problem, their self-discipline and anger management skills, enrich our culture. Their commitment to academic excellence enriches our schools and serves as an example to all who hope to achieve prominence as a people.
That real estate values are enhanced by the mix of African Americans into an area due to their caring and respectful nature of these communities, is an example of all they have achieved through their enthusiasm for self-improvement by hard work and a self-reliant can-do nature.
And we certainly must not forget their abhorrence for crime and their dedication to observing the law. Without their industrious and creative drive, we would be poorer as a nation ..
When it was a predominately Caucasian (white) neighborhood a long, long, time ago (pre-1967 Detroit Riots) it was known as Finney High School.
What are they preparing for?
Prison.
