In an interview with The New Yorker, the Beatles member called rival British rock band The Rolling Stones a “blues cover band.”
SNIP
“I’m not sure I should say it, but they’re a blues cover band, that’s sort of what the Stones are,” McCartney, 79, said. “I think our net was cast a bit wider than theirs.”
SNIP
“They are rooted in the blues. When they are writing stuff, it has to do with the blues,” McCartney said at the time. “We had a little more influences … There’s a lot of differences and I love the Stones, but I’m with you. The Beatles were better.”

McCartney is somewhat overrated, i liked George Harrison best, at least he was a Traveling Willbury, Paul wasn’t.

What’s the difference between a Rolling Stone and a Scottish farmer? A Rolling Stone says, Hey You Get Off of My Cloud. A Scottish farmer says, Hey McCloud, Get Off of My Ewe.

Frank Zappa used to excoriate the Beatles. I remember McCartney stating something to the effect that they shouldn’t sell millions of records?

Lightfoots songs are deep. Beatles had much more varied styles of music. Stones were bluesy rockers. All different from each other. All excellent. Should not be compared for greatness.
Personally, Lightfoot songs take me away to envision and live his stories. One of my favorites, ostensibly about an ex soldier suffering from shell shock/PTSD...Summer side of Life...

I think most of his post-Beatles music was pap and crap - Silly Love Songs, Band on the Run, and so forth. John Lennon hated it. True, all true. McCartney should have led off for the Archies.

Any of Maccas stuff was better than “Imagine”.

Imagine how many church aisles were besmirched by idiot couples marching up to exchange their vows to the strains of that stupid song.

Who the F does Paul McCartney think he is??
I get it! Paul (Faux Paul) died in a car accident in 1966. Faul (Willi Campbell) is a plastic surgery replacement double. A very good double. Pisses me off, now that I know.

Neither of them could hold a candle to Wes Montgomery.

Neither of them could hold a candle to Wes Montgomery. Wes did a great version of "Eleanor Rigby".

"Together, they were an amazing team. I think they kept each other from recording lousy material."
LOL. I agree. When they split, each of their worst tendencies began to dominate, although back in the day I preferred Lennon's worst tendencies to McCartney's. Well, maybe not, but Lennon's post-Beatles career was short-lived.

I love the guitar intro to Gimme Shelter.

First time I ever saw that joke was here on FR about 20 years ago. Glad to see it hasn’t been forgotten.
