News media prematurely reported that patients were responding to treatment.

But the published data lated showed that “remdesivir was not associated with statistically significant clinical benefits [and] the numerical reduction in time to clinical improvement in those treated earlier requires confirmation in larger studies.”

The controversy surrounding remdesivir therefore revolves around whether the drug is actually an effective treatment.

Early studies produced conflicting evidence on remdesivir’s effectiveness. Some found that Covid patients who received the drug recovered faster and fewer people died, but other studies showed that it didn’t reduce the length of hospitalization or death rate.

What’s weird about remdesivir is that it hasn’t been held to the same standards as other drug candidates......

My son is a physician at a Boston hospital and he will say the same thing. It’s the unvaccinated who are filling up the ICUs.

Note also that respiratory viral illness isn’t obstructive. Patients can become distressed if their gas exchange is poor & they’re desaturating. But they don’t need mechanical ventilation coupled with sedation. Instead, an oxygen mask or nasal cannula will often help a lot, and if it doesn’t, your patient may be unsalvageable.

So what Doctor Reardon is saying is, if a person isn't helped by a nasal cannula, pull the plug? Sounds like he's a certifiable idiot.

if they are on a ventilator? nothing. they will be comfortable. But there is an issue with the “normal dose”. It varies widely with the patients tolerance and degree of discomfort of the procedure or treatment they are receiving. The OP admits they are not medical and have no way to evaluate the dosing clinically. I have seen patients that have developed a tolerance take doses many times higher than those that have not to achieve the same level of sedation. This is true not only with midazolam but with all benzodiazepines and opioids
