Alabama vs. Texas A&M score, takeaways: Aggies win stunner, No. 1 Tide suffer first unranked loss since 2007

Texas A&M pulled off the upset of the 2021 college football season -- and one for the history books -- on Saturday night as it took down No. 1 Alabama, 41-38, in front of 106,815 fans, the second-largest crowd in Kyle Field history. The outcome marked Alabama coach Nick Saban's first career loss to one of his former assistants as Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher delivered on his May vow to the Houston Touchdown Club that the Aggies would beat the Crimson Tide under Saban.

[SNIP] The loss is Alabama's first to an unranked opponent since 2007, which was Saban's first season leading the program, and it snapped the program's 100-game winning streak against unranked foes. The Crimson Tide entered as 17.5 point favorites but were in trouble from the jump as Texas A&M opened up a 24-10 halftime lead behind a rejuvenated offensive attack. From there, it was a matter of holding on for dear life and rallying late, as the Aggies scored the final 10 points and improved to 4-2 (1-2 SEC) with the victory.

Best college ballgame I have seen in the past few years.

First time one of Sabin's former assistant coaches has beaten him.

Alabama's 19 game winning streak going back to mid season 2019 is now in the toilet.

A&M unranked underdogs gave better than they got from Alabama. A cliffhanger down to the last second.

Stadium attendence was 106,000. Fans stormed the field at the end of the game and were packed shoulder to shoulder from one end zone to the other.

Didn’t see that coming, A&M looked so bad the last few weeks.

Well, congrats Georgia on your new Number One ranking.

I am a dyed in the wool Bama fan, but Georgia is the best team in the nation presently.

Iowa built a children’s hospital overlooking the stadium. The top floor on Saturday home games is used by the patients and their families to view the game. At the end of first quarter, the fans wave to the kids. Even the visiting teams will wave. It’s no wonder that college football has a bigger draw than the pros.

But were they vaccinated; wearing masks?

Bama’s QB got a lot of pressure from Aggies defense and he couldn’t handle it.
