Sounds like your husband has a very strong hereditary hyperlipidemia issue. As a dear cardiologist used to say, "We can control diet, we can prescribe medications. We can't do a damn thing about genetics."

Blood pressure medications and statins have been quite successful improving longevity.

Do you have a citation about the statins? Because the studies I remember showed no reduction in mortality. Does current research show that cholesterol is a good predictor of of heart health?
