I jaywalk quite often. Not saying this in an absolute way but most times it forces me to be more careful and thus safer than if I was crossing at a crosswalk or corner.

Number one place for pedestrian fatalities - crosswalks.

And most of the deceased have the right of way when they were killed.

I cross where I need to. I don’t walk an extra two thirds of a block to get to a crosswalk. I do so in such a way as to not inconvenience any drivers or make them think they might have to dodge. I have very good distance/motion perception and when I was younger and my legs more reliable, I would cross busy highways.
