Don’t know for sure but some suspicions:
1. Vaccinations are a metric which can be reported on in a situation where the government is largely helpless and so they can report “success”, even though it seems to have little or no effect on actual cases.
2. The government wants to be seen as doing a great job of handling the pandemic so the public won’t be tempted to question why the pandemic happened in the first place.
3. The government fears that, if the origin of the pandemic establishes it is complicit, it will face tremendous liability. It would rather people suffer from long-term side effects of the vaccine which are hard to prove beyond doubt than die immediately of Covid.
4. It doesn’t want a control group where it might be possible to establish which long-term problems are caused by Covid and which are caused by the vaccine.
