What do you mean by “right wing” here?
In Leipzig, you can count on skinheads, Nazi-lite types, real-Nazis, and AfD folks. Some still have a anti-Jew slant on things. But from the left side, you have radical environmentalists, Antifa, Marxists, etc. Some of this is purely university-related, and some is working-class socializing.
I should also note that you have various Muslim groups in the region, and some of those are anti-Jew.
Two years ago, the city finally got around to renovation of a ‘quarter’ on the south side of the town. Revolutionary types from the university had a lot of housing in this suburb, and were infuriated that the ‘character’ of the neighborhood was being raised up. They organized and conducted damage on the renovation sites. Police patrols had to be improved to prevent destruction of the construction projects.
Lot of history and draws tourism, but it’s one of those German towns where you pay attention to your surroundings. Probably one of a dozen towns where you need to think about things ahead of time.
