Bubba Wallace became just the second Black driver to win at NASCAR's top Cup Series level when rain stopped Monday's playoff race at Talladega Superspeedway.

Wallace had driven through a crash and to the front of the field five laps before the second rain stoppage of the race. NASCAR tried to dry the track for nearly 45 minutes, but called things off as sunset approached and the rain showing no sign of ceasing.

Wallace had been waiting atop his pit stand celebrated wildly with his crew when the race was called. Wallace is in his first season driving for 23X1 Racing, a team owned by both Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan.

Wallace broke down in tears after he returned to his parked No. 23 Toyota. The car number was picked for co-owner Jordan, who wore 23 in the NBA.

“This is for all the kids out there that want to have an opportunity and whatever they want to achieve, and be the best at what they want to do,” Wallace said as he choked back tears. “You’re going to go through a lot of (BS). But you always got to stick true to your path and not let the nonsense get to you.

“Stay strong. Stay humble. Stay hungry. Been plenty of times when I wanted to give up.”

The first Japanese driver to win since...
The first Ghanian driver to win since...
The first trans, bipolar, amputee, lefthanded driver to win since...

Can they just knock off this hyphenated garbage for once?

People who focus on things like that are the most hard-core racists you will ever find.

Someday Bubba is going to figure out that a circular or oval track is a stylized noose invented by good old boys to dog whistle about great old days of nightriders, moonshine and lynchings. All NASCAR fans, including the black ones, are Klansmen, and Bubba is playing Stepin Fetchit when he performs for them. If he had paid attention in wokeness class, he would know this.

Of course NBC had to bring up #NooseGate and ruin the moment.

“This is for all the kids out there that want to have an opportunity and whatever they want to achieve, and be the best at what they want to do,”.. Really, you drove around in a circle and didn’t wreck and won by default. What do you want, a medal?

And not even the FIRST BLACK, so what's all the fuss? I guess society is desperate to celebrate Black achievements, even though this was achieved back in 1963.

**118 of 188 laps looks like an asterisk win.

There are plenty of asterisks to go around:

https://www.reddit.com/r/NASCAR/comments/cd6j69/list_of_alltime_weathershortened_races/

In NASCAR's modern era (since 1972), there have been 52 shortened races. [This list is two years old, so a couple more might have been added since.]

Jeff Gordon has five rain-shortened wins (Bristol 1996, Talladega 1996, Atlanta 1998, Pocono 2007, Pocono 2012), which is the most of any driver.

Darrell Waltrip has the second-most with four rain-shortened wins (Atlanta 1977, Atlanta 1982, Bristol 1983, Darlington 1992).

Five drivers have three each - Rusty Wallace (Pocono 1991, Martinsville 1995, Phoenix 1998), Jeff Burton (both Darlington races in 1999 and Las Vegas 2000), Tony Stewart (Michigan 2000, Loudon 2000, Fontana 2012), Kurt Busch (Atlanta 2002, Loudon 2008, Michigan 2015) and Cale Yarborough (Martinsville 1976, Richmond 1977, Martinsville 1977).

Sterling Marlin (Daytona 1996 and Michigan 2001) and Richard Petty (Martinsville 1973 and Pocono 1974) have two shortened wins.

There are 24 other drivers (Pearson, Marcis, Richmond, Davey Allison, Earnhardt, Kyle Petty, Martin, Bobby Labonte, Elliott, Newman, Michael Waltrip, Nemechek, Johnson, Kahne, Biffle, Kenseth, Reutimann, Logano, Almirola, Earnhardt Jr., Buescher, Edwards, Bowyer and Haley) who have one.

Bubba

used to be

one of my favorite drivers.

Until he hooked up with the blm/antifa division of the FBI and hoaxes a hate crime.

Black driver
Except he isn’t “ black”

He’s as white as Obama and I.
Half.

Spit.

And he won while sitting under an umbrella.

By default.

What a role model,,,, not.

At first, he didn't know he won.
He just thought he was being chased by a bunch of white guys.

That solidarity parade before the race did it for me.

https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nascar/news/nascar-drivers-bubba-wallace-noose/1qocuryt3l00y15y3idt989b83

Though I had my complaints about NASCAR, I had enjoyed the races. I enjoyed the Free Republic Fantasy Racing League and even won it 2 or 3 seasons. But that parade before that Talladega race was the final straw for me.
